Alright, I love leather - not as much as I love gears but the material calls to me in a way that metal can't. Must be something about soft versus hard textures....(Velvety steel anyone *wiggles eyebrows*)
Anywho, what are you looking at?
This picture is a prototype product I made up around 2am a few days ago. It is a note taker / journal / notebook that is usable, complete with flipping pages and can be built with a page marker too. The best part is its all miniature - small things are so neat ^.^ This pendant is about 1" (2.5cm,25mm) long and 0.5" (1cm,10mm) wide - or about the size of a quarter.
This journal pendant keeps closed with friction via the key lock that slips through the leather notch as seen above.
Anouther perk, this item is great for those with metal sensitivities! No metal touches the skin ever. The key is english pewter and the hoop is gold tone plastic ring.
What do I see improving already? A few things. I'd like to improve the friction lock by changing it so instead of just one band that comes from the other side, the band loops around the notebook several times and then the key can tuck itself between the string and the cover. The other change would be to use a thicker leather for more of a "hidebound book" look that I am aiming for.
I am contemplating putting these on things like keychains, rings and bracelets - all made and cut in the appropriate size to wear so there is no bulk and awkward edges. Currently I have this example on tong (leather string) and the notebook pendant simply hangs off the tong through a hoop.attatched to it.
What do you think?
I'm always game to hear what people think about prototypes so if you see a change that you think would be awesome or a way to wear this that would be super specal awesome, leave some feedback on the bottom. Critiques and comments please, no flaming and no insults (or else.)
